Overview
Prof. Dr. Burhan Ferhanoğlu was born in Mardin in 1953. He is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Hematology, and a Turkish Medical Professor.
After completing his primary and secondary education, he graduated from Istanbul Vefa High School in 1972. He then began his medical studies at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, graduating as a medical doctor in 1978. In 1982, he completed his Internal Medicine residency at the same faculty. Between 1982 and 1984, Dr. Ferhanoğlu served his military duty at Bursa Military Hospital, Department of Internal Medicine. From 1984 to 1986, he completed his compulsory service at Çorum State Hospital, Department of Internal Medicine.
Between 1986 and 1988, Dr. Ahmet Burhan Ferhanoğlu worked as a specialist in the Department of Internal Medicine and Hematology at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. After becoming an associate professor in 1988, he worked between 1990 and 1991 at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Department of Hematology/Oncology. In 1992, he continued his research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Seattle, Washington.After returning to Turkey, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burhan Ferhanoğlu continued his work in the Department of Hematology at Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, where he became a professor in 1994.
In 1998, he began working in the Hematology Department of the American Hospital. In 2012, after retiring from Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, he continued his career at the American Hospital Hematology Department, while also serving as the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Koç University Faculty of Medicine. Since 2021, Prof. Dr. Burhan Ferhanoğlu has been continuing his work at the American Hospital Hematology Department, as well as serving as the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Koç University Faculty of Medicine.
